1. All equine participants must sign waiver to ride. Under 18, must be signed by guardian or parent. No one under 9 may show due to insurance. Appropriate clothing must be worn at all times (no sports bras, daisy dukes, etc.)
2. Each horse & rider combination will be awarded their own number for show year, only VRS numbers will be used.
3. Rules & regulations by AQHA & 4-H rules, unless otherwise specified. No horse can enter same class more than once.
4. A gaited horse can not be judged down for performing their natural gait instead of gait called by judge. Gaited rider needs to perform gait that corresponds to their breed. class is a two gaited class. Walking Horse Pleasure - all horses shall enter the ring at a flat walk. Country Pleasure Riders will show at a flat walk, running walk, and canter both ways of the ring.
5. No mechanical hacks allowed in Hunter or Western division (bosals will be permitted on young horses).
6. Current negative coggins required to show. Will be checked with entry. Rider must show original coggins at rider’s 1st show with us.
7. Pony Classification - 14.2 hands & under and rider 18 years & under (unless specified) as of January 1; youth classification - 18 & under as of January 1. If measurement is in question, an official Horse Measurer of Henrico Co. will measure at the time of the show.
8. Pee Wee classes - rider – 9-12 years old; attire informal, western or hunter tack. Boots & helmet required.
9. Western attire mandatory for western classes and hunter attire mandatory for hunter classes; protective headgear required in all classes for 18 years & under; (no baseball hats or tee shirts). Protective headgear can be worn in any class with no penalty.
10. When pony & horse classes are combined, in speed, for lack of participation, points will be awarded to the original division of registration at previous shows.
11. All stallions (including minis) cannot be shown by anyone under 18.
12. Judges decision final. Less than 4 entries - no class except PeeWee; classes can be combined, changed or cancelled by show management. Classes without participation after 2 shows may be dropped.
13. All dogs on leashes. No dogs allowed near riding ring.
14. Horses must stay in horse area of park. No fast riding around ring or parked vehicles.
15. A minimum of 50% shows are required to be considered for Year End Champion & Reserve.
16. No alcoholic beverages, profanity or unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated, person(s) may be asked to leave by show management.
17. The club or ground owners will not be held responsible for accidents or injuries to persons, animals or property on grounds.
18. Participants are encouraged to throw trash in proper receptacles. Aluminum cans in recyclable containers.
19. Permanent show numbers will be assigned to each horse & rider combination. These numbers will need to be turned in at the end of each show. $5.00 penalty for failure to do so.
20. Speed Classes: Flag race: flag will be set in same position after each run. Failure to follow course – no time. A 5-second penalty will be added to a rider’s time for knocking over an obstacle in poles and barrels. No rider can be tied in saddle. Western long sleeved shirts required.
21. Entry fees will not be refunded for a class once that class has begun. If you need to scratch a class, you must do so 2 classes prior to that class. Failure to scratch 2 classes prior, no refund will be given. Tack changes will be 3 minutes, need to be requested at booth 3 classes ahead.
22. Champion division classes posted at show. Two way ties for champion & reserve may be broken by flip of coin or hack off, this will be a management decision. Three way ties will require a hack off.
23. Return check charge will be $25.00. No year-end prizes will be awarded to rider with outstanding debt to VRS.
24. Point tabulations will be by entries in classes: (6 entries: {1st –6 pts; 2nd – 5pts; 3rd-4pts; 4th – 3pts; 5th – 2pts; 6th – 1 pt.}); (5 entries: {1st – 5 pts;
2nd – 4pts; 3rd – 3 pts.; 4th – 2 pts; 5th – 1 pt}); (4 entries: {1st – 4 pts; 2nd –3 pts; 3rd – 2 pts; 4th – 1 pt)}; (3 entries: {1st – 3 pts; 2nd – 2pts; 3rd – 1 pt.});
(2 entries: {1st – 2 pts; 2nd – 1 pt)}.

Miniature Horse Show Rules
1. All Varina Rising Stars 4-H Open Show rules apply.
2. Show is open to any miniature horse under 38” tall & show pony 39”-48”. Registration papers are NOT required.
3. Junior Horse are those horses 2 years old and under.
4. Each horse & exhibitor combination must have a separate number. Failure to comply with this rule will result in forfeiture of all points.
5. A complete copy of rules will be available at the booth during each horse show or can be mailed upon request.
6. No one under 9 years of age may show due to insurance reasons. No one under 18 may show a stallion.
7. If adding/scratching a class after entry from has already been filed with Main Show Office (Ring I Booth), an add/scratch form must be filled out and turned into the Ring II announcer’s table before the exhibitor enters the ring. Failure to complete and submit an add/scratch form prior to entering the ring may result in the entry being disqualified from the class.
8. All outstanding entry fees must be paid at the end of each monthly show. No year end points will be recorded if not paid up. No monthly or year end awards will be presented until fees are paid.
EXCEPTIONAL RIDER
Exceptional riders are youth with special riding needs. A doctor’s note is required to indicate that the rider has none of the following medical/health issues: disk problems, hemophilia, severe osteoporosis, lack of head control, insufficient trunk control for riding even with side walkers.
Class to be performed while mounted with the assistance of a parent & side walkers as needed. Side walkers must be at least 14 years of age.
At a minimum all riders should be able to ask their horse to walk forward, halt and turn right and left. All riders must control the horse at all gaits. Riders are expected to know proper spacing and how to obtain it. Additional elements may be added at he the judge’s discretion.
Riders will be judged on knowledge of basic riding positions for which he/she is striving & the ability to maintain position at halt & walk.
Tack must be well-fitted and conform to each horse and rider's needs. Special adaptive tack may be used where needed; riders shall not be attached in any way to the horse or saddle. Horses must be in good condition. Anyone mounted on a horse will wear full-harness protective headgear with chinstrap. Each entrant will be inspected for safety and appropriate tack.

4-H Pony/Youth Rider; Halter; 4-H Hunter; Open Hunter, 18 & under; Open Hunter, 19 & over; Over The Hill; Young Horse Western; Young Horse Hunter; Gaited; Mini Halter; Mini Youth Performance; Mini Adult Performance; Exceptional Rider.
*Young Horse -2 -5 years old, age will be checked by coggins. **youth Rider - 18 & Under.
